Does Mindfulness Work?
Learning to become more mindful can
have benefits for everyone, not just those of us who may have specific
problems.
Many people report
that after attending
a Mindfulness course they feel more self confident, and calmer.
In general, it may help us to increase our
sense of well being and to help
us be able to pay better attention at work or at home.
Many people have found Mindfulness to
be of long term benefit with such problems as:
· stress
. chronic pain
. fibromyalgia
. multiple
sclerosis
. anxiety
. panic
. psoriasis
. cancer
. chronic fatigue
. depression
There is also evidence from various studies
suggesting that being mindful does have:
physical benefits,
e.g. regulating stress, lowering heart beat and improving the immune
system.
emotional benefits, e.g. enhancing
a sense of balance, well being, clarity and it may even increase
empathy and improve relationships. There is evidence that meditation can
actually rewire the brain.

One study found
that people who did about 20 minutes of mindfulness practice per day,
over about 8 weeks, in a busy business environment had a more powerful
immune system at the end of just 8 weeks.
